Notes from the Edge is the Substack of aspiring author Katharine Kapodistria. I write fantasy fiction inspired by folklore, mythology and the human experience.
Crossworlds Fantasy Friday
Short story fiction (generally 1,000 - 2,000 words) published on sporadic Fridays. Our cast of characters includes a conflicted monk, a faerie entrepreneur, an urban witch, a shapeshifting socialite, several Deaths and a man who strikes a bargain for true love. Check out the Short Stories tab above for a list of all tales published so far.
Serialisation
Every Tuesday, read a new chapter of my NYA Fantasy novel Underworld - a reimagining (not a retelling) of the myth of Persefóni.
Publications & Achievements
I started writing short stories in October 2024. My little (huge to me!) successes so far:
Cursed received an Honourable Mention in Issue 37: Talking in Tongues of Elegant Literature magazine.
Chapter 1: Chimera of Underworld appeared in Top in Fiction #5 when it was published.
Fifteen Men appeared in Issue 17: Pirates and Prophecies of Indie Bites magazine.
Changeling received an Honourable Mention in Issue 39: Fearsome Folklore of Elegant Literature magazine.
Skellig won the Fantasy Round of the Lunar Awards 2025, which I’m very excited about, and received a wonderful write-up from Daniel W. Davison.
Shoot the Messenger, a worldbuilding fantasy, has been accepted and will appear in Issue 18: Bards and Bargains of Indie Bites magazine.
A promise
I will absolutely never, never EVER use AI in my art, because that defeats the purpose of making art at all.
